FromSoft’s Cruelest: 10 Elden Ring Bosses That’ll Make You Rage-Quits

So You Think You’re a Tarnished? Let’s Talk Pain.

If you’ve braved the Lands Between and lived to tell the tale, you already know: Elden Ring doesn’t just ask for your time—it demands your soul. It’s the kind of game that lures you in with golden sunsets and crumbling castles… then slaps you into oblivion with a rot-infused katana or a gravity-powered lion god. Every boss fight feels personal, like the game is reading your mind—and punishing your overconfidence.

And just when we thought FromSoftware couldn’t make things tougher, Shadow of the Erdtree dropped.

We spent over 40 hours in the new DLC getting stomped, burned, disrespected, and occasionally—very occasionally—triumphant. If you haven’t read our full experience yet, we broke it all down in our no-fluff, spoiler-light review of Shadow of the Erdtree. It’s where we first met the boss that now tops this very list.

Trust us, if you think base-game Malenia was brutal… just wait until you meet her brother.

10. Promised Consort Radahn (Shadow of the Erdtree DLC)

You know a boss is brutal when legends say they “questioned life decisions” while fighting it. That’s Radahn 2.0. His phase two—with Miquella riding his back—is radioactive chaos: meteors, magic pillars, teleport slashes. No frame-safe zones, no reset. Just laser-tight timing and planning. He tops nearly every leaderboard of Elden Ring difficulty.

9. Malenia, Blade of Miquella

If Elden Ring had a boss-tier celestial entity, this is it. Not only does she heal with every hit, but her Waterfowl Dance can destroy you mid-roll. Meta builds hate her, tanks fear her, and speedrunners only dream—but perish—against her. The player known as “Let Me Solo Her” became a legend for fighting her naked, with a pot on the head

8. Rellana, Twin Moon Knight (DLC)

Elegant but deadly. With dual swords and moon-energy AoEs, Rellana doesn’t just attack—she orchestrates chaos. Her teleport-magic combos make predicting her next strike pure luck. Imagine tangoing with a moonlight ghost—and losing.

7. Messmer the Impaler (DLC)

Think Malenia with a snake fetish—then multiply the aggression. Messmer’s flame-spears, grabs, and blade transformations punish any greed or hesitation. He’s a mandatory gatekeeper for DLC progression, and he sure knows how to gatekeep.

6. Bayle the Dread (DLC)

A dragon that “breathes despair.” Bayle can stagger-lock you with aerial strikes and flame-shockwaves. His second phase adds flame-lightning chaos for maximum sensory overload. Summon Igon if you want sanity—or witty one-liners as you die.

5. Maliketh, the Black Blade

Speed demon meets dark sorcery. Maliketh doesn’t give openings—he creates pressure. One wrong move, and you’re staggered into oblivion. His blinding speed and trick attacks are among the most unforgiving boss mechanics in the game.

4. Mahg, Lord of Blood

Bloody hell. Mohg punishes you for standing still. Blood-based attacks, massive damage, and curses that cripple builds without preparation. Bring blood immunity tools—or plan to die spectacularly.

3. Astel, Naturalborn of the Void

When cosmic horror meets Final Boss energy. Astel’s space-warp attacks, teleport slashes, and gravity anomalies don’t just hit—you question physics in the process. One second you’re attacking normally, the next you’re trying to dodge from heck itself.

2. Fire Giant

A marathon fight with very little room to breathe. Immense hit zones, projectiles, and worse—his attacks get more devastating as his health drops. This isn’t stamina; it’s mental endurance you’re fighting here.

1. Radagon of the Golden Order + Elden Beast

Two bosses in one fight. Radagon demands every ounce of your reaction time. Elden Beast spams cosmic magic you can barely visualize, let alone dodge. Trying to beat this duo cleaner than phase cheese? You’re basically challenging yourself to memory surgery. Legend only belongs to survivors.

Why These Bosses Break Even Veterans

I got into Elden Ring day one. I’ve owed my soul to FromSoft many times. But these fights? They don’t just punish mistakes—they punish arrogance. They force adaptation, creativity, and physical stamina. We’re talking spells frozen mid-cast, attacks that insta-kill mid-roll, and arenas more deadly than Helheim.

Community memory aligns: Reddit threads light up with tales of repeated deaths and strategies reset mid-swing. Look at the top spots on r/Eldenring: almost always they’re Malenia, Radahn, Bayle. Real gamers respect that kind of challenge—and then grind to conquer it.

FAQs
Q1: Who is considered the hardest boss in Elden Ring?

Consistently across players and rankings: Promised Consort Radahn, especially in his Shadow of the Erdtree incarnation—phase two is unmatched in difficulty.

Q2: Why is Malenia treated as a benchmark for pain in Elden Ring?

She heals on hit and has overwhelming aerial combos—specifically Waterfowl Dance—that wipe the floor with both builds and morale.

Q3: Are DLC bosses harder than base-game bosses?

Absolutely—and Shadow of the Erdtree takes it further. Messmer, Bayle, Rellana, and Radahn DLC are designed to push even ultra-grinders past the edge.

Q4: Is Elden Ring still worth playing if I get stuck on one of these fights?

Totally. These full-scale bosses are made for growth—mechanical and mental. If you can beat even one of them solo, you earned your gamer stripes.
